₹30,000 First Salary: Monthly Budget for Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore (2026)

Got your first offer letter and moving cities on ₹30,000 a month? Here is a realistic budget for Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore: rent, food, commute, savings, and the money you need before your first salary arrives.

Planning a monthly budget on a ₹30,000 first salary before moving to Delhi, Gurgaon or Bangalore

Planning a monthly budget on a ₹30,000 first salary before moving to Delhi, Gurgaon or Bangalore

Short answer: on a ₹30,000 first salary, keep rent (with meals) at about ₹9,000 to ₹11,000, which in Delhi, Gurgaon or Bangalore usually means a double or triple sharing PG in a budget area. Plan roughly ₹6,000 to ₹8,000 for food outside the PG, commute and phone, ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 for personal costs, and save at least ₹5,000 every month. Also keep ₹25,000 to ₹35,000 ready before you move: the deposit and first month's rent are due before your first salary arrives.

Seedha jawab (Hinglish): ₹30,000 ki pehli salary mein rent (khane ke saath) ₹9,000 se ₹11,000 tak rakho. Delhi, Gurgaon ya Bangalore mein iska matlab hai budget area mein double ya triple sharing PG. Khana, aana-jaana aur phone ke liye ₹6,000 se ₹8,000, personal kharche ₹2,000 se ₹3,000, aur har mahine kam se kam ₹5,000 bachao. Shift hone se pehle ₹25,000 se ₹35,000 haath mein rakho, kyunki deposit aur pehle mahine ka rent salary aane se pehle dena padta hai.

First, know what actually reaches your account

If ₹30,000 is your gross monthly salary, the amount in your bank will be a little lower. The common deductions at this level are:

  • Provident Fund (PF): usually 12% of your basic pay, often capped at ₹1,800 a month. It is your money, saved for later, but it does not reach your account.
  • Professional tax: Karnataka charges ₹200 a month (₹300 in February) on salaries of ₹25,000 and above. Delhi and Haryana do not levy it.
  • Income tax: at ₹3.6 lakh a year, you will normally owe nothing under the new tax regime.

So plan with roughly ₹28,000 in hand, and check your first payslip to be sure. If your offer letter says ₹30,000 in hand, you have a little more room.

A ₹30,000 monthly budget that works

Expense Monthly amount Notes
Rent (PG, sharing, usually with meals) ₹9,000 to ₹11,000 About a third of your pay. Confirm what the rent includes.
Food outside the PG ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 Lunch at office, weekend meals, snacks
Commute ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 Metro or bus. Cabs every day will break this budget.
Phone and data ₹300 to ₹600 Most PGs include Wi-Fi; confirm before moving in
Personal care, laundry, toiletries ₹1,000 to ₹1,500
Going home, outings, gifts ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 Book train tickets early
Savings ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 Pay yourself first, on salary day
Buffer ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 For the month something goes wrong

This adds up to roughly ₹22,000 to ₹30,000. At the lower end you have room to build savings faster; at the upper end you are on the edge, so cut cabs and eating out first.

What rent looks like in each city

These are PG rents per person per month, approximate, as of September 2026, gathered from current rental listings and guides. Actual rent depends on the exact area, AC, attached bathroom and whether meals are included.

City Triple sharing Double sharing Single room
Delhi (e.g. Laxmi Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar) ₹5,000 to ₹11,000 ₹8,000 to ₹14,500 ₹9,000 to ₹19,000
Gurgaon ₹6,000 to ₹9,000 ₹8,000 to ₹14,000 ₹12,000 to ₹22,000
Bangalore (e.g. Marathahalli, Electronic City, KR Puram) ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 ₹7,500 to ₹14,500 ₹9,000 to ₹18,000

On ₹30,000, a single room usually pushes rent past 40% of your pay. Start in double or triple sharing for the first six months, build your savings, then upgrade.

Delhi

Laxmi Nagar, Uttam Nagar and the North Campus side have the most budget PGs. Live near a metro station on the same line as your office; the metro is the cheapest way to cover long distances. Browse PGs in Delhi on DreamAcco.

Gurgaon

Rents near Cyber City and Golf Course Road are the highest. Areas a little further out, with a Rapid Metro, metro or shared-auto link to your office, cost less. See PGs in Gurgaon, and our guide on choosing the right PG in Gurgaon.

Bangalore

Traffic makes commute time the real cost. Pick a PG close to your tech park, even if it costs ₹1,000 more; it often saves that much on cabs. Browse PGs in Bangalore.

The money you need before your first salary

This is where most freshers get stuck. Your salary usually arrives at the end of your first month, but these costs come on day one:

  • Security deposit: commonly one to two months' rent for a PG.
  • First month's rent, paid in advance.
  • Travel from your home town, plus a few days of stay if you arrive before joining.
  • Basics: bedsheet, bucket, extension cord, a first metro card top-up.

Keep ₹25,000 to ₹35,000 ready. If you need a place for the first week or two while you look around, a hostel is easier than a PG, since most PGs expect a stay of about three months. See hostels in Delhi.

Before you pay anything

  • Visit the PG in person and see the actual room and bathroom.
  • Meet the owner or manager, and ask whether they own or manage the property.
  • Get the rent, deposit, notice period and deposit refund terms in writing.
  • Ask exactly what the rent covers: meals, electricity, Wi-Fi, laundry.
  • Ask the owner whether tenant police verification has been done.
  • Never pay a token or deposit before seeing the place.

Three habits that keep a first salary working

  1. Save on salary day, not at month end. Move ₹5,000 into a separate account or a recurring deposit the day your salary arrives.
  2. Build a three-month emergency fund before you upgrade to a single room.
  3. Track for the first two months. Most people underestimate food delivery and cabs by a few thousand rupees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Keep rent around Rs 9,000 to Rs 11,000 a month, about a third of your pay. In Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore that usually means a double or triple sharing PG in a budget area, often with meals included. A single room usually costs more than 40% of a Rs 30,000 salary. You can compare PG rents in each city on DreamAcco and confirm the current rent with the poster.

Keep about Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 ready. A PG usually asks for a security deposit of one to two months' rent plus the first month in advance, and you also need travel money and basics. Your salary normally arrives at the end of the first month. DreamAcco charges zero brokerage, so you only pay the owner's rent and deposit.

Aim for at least Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 a month, moved into a separate account on salary day. Build an emergency fund of about three months' expenses before upgrading to a single room or a flat. Keeping rent low is the biggest lever, which is why many freshers start in a sharing PG found on DreamAcco.

Yes, in one specific way: posters verify their mobile number with an OTP, so you contact a real, reachable number. DreamAcco does not inspect the property or check documents, so visit in person, meet the owner and read the terms before paying any token or deposit.

Rent (khane ke saath) Rs 9,000 se Rs 11,000 tak rakho, yaani budget area mein double ya triple sharing PG. Khana, aana-jaana aur phone ke liye Rs 6,000 se Rs 8,000, personal kharche Rs 2,000 se Rs 3,000, aur salary aate hi kam se kam Rs 5,000 bachao. DreamAcco par Delhi, Gurgaon aur Bangalore ke PG dekh sakte ho aur owner se seedha baat kar sakte ho.

Andaazan Rs 25,000 se Rs 35,000 haath mein rakho. PG mein aam taur par ek se do mahine ka deposit aur pehle mahine ka rent advance mein lagta hai, saath mein travel aur zaroori saamaan. Pehle hafte ke liye hostel aasaan rehta hai, kyunki zyada tar PG kam se kam teen mahine chahte hain. DreamAcco par hostels aur PG dono mil jaate hain.
